(…I got nothin’.)
You pick up where Cirno left off. “I failed you, Flandre. I don’t want to lie to you anymore: I’ve been a horrible sister, and I can't begin to apologize enough. Forgive me, Flandre, and please, please don't hate me. I made a mistake, but I want to make it up. I want to show you the love that you deserve, that I’ve forgotten to give you all these years."
Flandre falls to her knees in front of you, weeping horribly into her hands. Her yellow crystals are so bright that it’s blinding to look this close to them. She continues to yell at Remilia, but it seems she’s lost the will to fight any more.
“I…I hate you! I want to hate you, but…but I still love you, too! I don’t care, but I should, but I want to! Why can’t…Can’t I, can’t we just be together? Why do we always have to be like this?”
You nearly put a hand on her shoulder before realizing that you’d probably like to keep that hand for the time being. You’re much more level-headed now, much more calm. You passed. You passed this small challenge with your life intact, and perhaps might have finally started the events which might bring the two Scarlets back together and solve this mansion mystery once and for all.
“Shhh, shhh, it’s all right,” you console, wishing that you could hug her or wipe her tears away. “You don't have to cry anymore, Flandre. Things will be changing here for the better soon…I promise.”
You don’t really notice that fact that you don’t know
how things will be changing. You don’t really notice that fact that Remilia herself might not be so caring when the time comes. You don’t really notice the cool feeling on your nose and ears as you look at the rising sun. You don’t really notice the blood drenched on your clothes and hair. You don’t really notice the pain in your eye socket.
But you certainly notice the instant that time stands still.
It’s been ages, it seems, since you last experienced the crippling shackles of seeing without moving, without feeling. Nathaniel, for once, was true to his word: these new glasses are perfectly clear in both lenses (well, the lens that you can see through…), and you can hear a faint rustling in the distance. The halt of time…has Nathaniel finally begun his final battle against Remila? Or is it—
“Tccsh, what do we have here?”
Sakuya’s voice rings loud and clear in your ears, the annoyance in her voice almost masking the surprise. You can’t see her, but she’s definitely here. But why? And why now, of all times?
“What I wouldn’t give to know what you children were just talking about,” she muses to herself. “But, as the Mistress commands. You’re needed elsewhere, farmboy.” With an unfelt tug you find yourself being dragged backwards against your will, the sensation of moving without feeling a thing quite maddening. Suddenly you stop, and part of the maid’s face appears in your vision. She frowns a little bit as she looks at you.
“Somehow found yourself another pair, did you? Well we can’t have that.” A hand reaches across your face and your vision warps uncomfortably; you’d feel sick to your stomach if you could feel anything right now—
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Please remain calm, sir. I hope this is not too unsettling for you.”
Wait, where…where are you? You look around; the mansion’s kitchen? Sakuya stands in front of you, her hands folded professionally in front of her apron. How did you get here?
“What…just happened?” you ask, your mind still relatively rattled from the sudden progression of events.
“Ahh, yes. I apologize again for your rather unconventional treatment. It seems as though you were wandering around the mansion basement, quite unaware of yourself, sir. You seemed to be under the delusion that you were trapped within black caverns and that your life was in grave danger. I managed to bring you back up here as you slept. I hope I did not offend your privacy, but you did not appear to be in your right mind, and I feared that you might harm yourself more than you already had.”
You don’t understand. Cirno, Flandre, Rumia, Nathaniel…you were just talking to Flandre; she thought you were Remilia. Sakuya stopped time, and then…a dream? Was this all a dream? A mad delusion, all thought up within your head? You look yourself over frantically: same clothes as when you woke up, but no blood, though your pants are a little scuffed up. Clean gauze is wrapped over your missing eye and around several portions of your legs and arms; all of them sting, but it feels more like a medicinal sting now. Pockets…what do you have in your pockets? Nothing…nothing save for those two cards of “Fate” and the mansion key.
“Where’s…where’s my things? Cirno, Nathaniel...what’s going on?”
She motions for you to calm down, and seats you down in one of the chairs. “Please try and calm yourself, sir. I brought you up from the basement as I found you; you had nothing else on your person except two strange cards, the key I gave to you, and the clothes on your back. Cirno is currently resting in the servant’s quarters for the time being. Mr. Nathaniel is meeting with Mistress Remilia over breakfast, and she has asked that they not be disturbed for any reason. When I informed her of your condition, she instructed me to keep you here in the kitchen and clean you up; she will be seeing you once she is satisfied with Mr. Nathaniel.”
This…this makes no sense! You were there! You were in those caverns with Flandre! You remember yourself ripping out your own eye to free yourself! You remember feeling Cirno’s blood on your hands, then feeling those other fairy’s blood on your hands instead! You were there when Adam became Glish, when Nathaniel told you “the truth”, and when Rumia attacked you all! It happened! And now Sakuya’s telling you that it was all a dream, a delusion created by your own mind? You…this isn’t possible!
Sakuya walks over to one of the ovens. “Please, sir; you look famished. Might I prepare something for you to break your fast while you wait? Perhaps we can discuss your unfortunate escapades once you’ve had something to eat.”
[ ] Sure; you’re pretty hungry. Eat something (perhaps you can request a dish?)
[ ] Just a few tidbits; you don’t know how much you can stomach right now.
[ ] You don’t feel like eating right now. Just rest here for a while.
[ ] You don’t feel like eating right now. Ask to go see Cirno.
[ ] You don’t feel like eating right now. Ask to go somewhere else. (specify where)
[ ] Write-ins are usually pretty useful, right?
Also…
[ ] While in the kitchen, describe what you might wish to do. Talk to Sakuya about something, rummage around in the cupboards, etc.
Also…
[ ] Believe what Sakuya said. It was only a matter of time before you conspiracy theories caught up with your horrible imagination.
[ ] Remain somewhat skeptical. There’s something not quite right about all this…
[ ] Remain extremely skeptical. This can’t be the entire story; there’s always something deeper!
[ ] Don’t believe a word of it! She’s lying! You know what you lived through!
