“I’ll go to bed, now. I’m struggling to stay awake as it is.”
Remilia nods. “Very well. You still know where your room is, I presume?”
“Yeah. By the way, you should turn in as well, young lady. It’s way past your bedtime.” Before she can respond, you swipe her hat off with one hand and ruffle her hair with the other. Replacing the hat, you smirk at her dumbfounded expression, and move off towards your room. “You’ve done a excellent job of running things while I was gone, Remi.”
Your room is almost exactly the same as it was when you left, except for two key differences. First, your bed has been exchanged for a slightly larger one. And second, your belongings have been unpacked and distributed about the room. Your laptop and games are on your desk, the tomes you brought with you are on the shelves, and your clothes are… You open the wardrobe. Yep, they’re in here. Along with a note in Remilia’s handwriting.
’Unacceptable. You shall be fitted for new clothes tomorrow.’
You want to be indignant about her rifling through your things, but you’re too tired. You’ll berate her after you wake up, then. With that out of the way, you change and get into bed. Sleep comes almost instantly.
You open your eyes. It takes a few moments, but you remember that you’re in your own room. You just lie there for a few minutes, until someone knocks on the door.
“Are you awake?” It’s Sakuya.
“Yeah.” you reply.
“Good. Breakfast will be in about an hour. Is there anything you need before that?”
You think it over. “A bath would be nice, I suppose.”
“Then I’ll draw one up now.” Comes the voice.
“Thanks.” You say, and move to grab some clothes.
When you reach the bathroom, the bath is ready. You undress and get in. Damn, that feels good— you relax, any worries you had now gone. You’re content to lie there for who knows how long, until the water begins to cool. Finally, after a bit of reluctant consideration, you get out.
After getting dressed, you move to leave, but you notice your reflection in the mirror. Huh, looks like it’s been enchanted to show a vampire’s reflection. You walk over to the mirror and take stock of yourself.
You’re tall and slightly scrawny. Your jet-black hair is short, and seems to absorb the light. Actually, if it weren’t for your wings, fangs, eyes, and unnatural vampiric handsomeness, you could pass yourself off as an ordinary human teenager. And you have— your wings can be hidden, your fangs passed off as a family quirk (which they are), and your eye color can be changed with contact lenses. The last factor, however…
“Are you okay? You’ve been in there for a while, now.”
“Wha—!?” You snap back to reality. “I’m… fine, Sakuya. Just lost track of time, that’s all,”
For some reason, she chuckles at that. “…Alright. Breakfast will be in a few minutes.” You hear footsteps moving off.
Dammit, this is why vampires don’t have reflections, you conclude. Every time you do manage to see your image in a mirror, you end up staring at yourself for far too long. Vampires may be immune to each other’s charisma but not, apparently, to their own. Sighing, you exit the bathroom.
“So, how was your first night back in your room?” asks Remilia as you walk into the dining hall. You sit down— breakfast has just been served.
“Fine, although my enjoyment of it was slightly marred by the fact that a certain younger sister of mine evidently took it upon herself to inspect my clothes without my permission.” You frown at her. She doesn’t budge.
“Those are the clothes of a common human, Wallachia. Not of a noble vampire.” You open your mouth to protest, but she cuts you off. “I’ve arranged for one of Patchy’s colleagues to come and measure you for some new clothes. She’ll be here later tonight, so don’t even think of trying to escape.”
No room for argument. She’s truly her mother’s daughter. Resigning yourself to your fate, you eat your breakfast.
