“I have decided. I will become a youkai of change.”
“Youkai… of change?” said Shinki, her head tilting to the side.
“Yes, youkai of change. If we are going to face the so-called God, we must be able to fight against His laws. So, what is the opposite of law?”
“Chaos?”
“Exactly. We need to fight His laws with the power of chaos. One of the aspects of chaos is change. I want the power to change His laws, to bend them for our benefit.”
Behind you, Yukari lets out a laugh that echoes around the garden. She pats you on the back and says, “Clever, very clever! That’s a brilliant idea, human. I’m really interested about what you will be capable of doing with that power.”
“Change, huh? Interesting, very interesting.” remarked Yuuka with a grin on her face.
“Well, I hope you become a powerful youkai, human. I don’t want you to drag us down when we fight the Dragon.” said Remilia.
“Alright, let’s begin the ritual. Yumeko, fetch Mima. Tell her to bring that ‘thing’.” said Shinki, her face beaming with excitement.
Yumeko nods at her before flying into a window located on the nearby tower.
Hearing the name “Mima”, you suddenly remember that Mima is the name of Marisa’s lost mentor. You decide to ask Shinki about her.
“Ah, so you already knew. Yes, she’s the same Mima that taught Marisa magic. She left her apprentice alone in Gensokyo to help me. She's a prodigy at researching new kinds of magic...and older, forbidden ones. Those, even more so. I wanted her to help find out how to turn a human into a youkai, so I gave her my knowledge of the 'Ultimate Magic' in exchange for her service.”
Her words hardly reach your ears after "Left gensokyo", though. "Why would she do that, suddenly leaving her apprentice without telling her anything? She should visit her once in a while. Marisa really misses her.” you protested.
“Let me answer that question myself.”
The voice comes from a green-haired woman with a ghost tail as her legs. She carries a staff with a crescent moon attached to the tip of it. Slowly, she descends from the tower with an amused grin on her face.
“I left my apprentice alone because she’s qualified enough to become a full-fledged magician by herself. At that time, she was already as powerful as I was, if not more. She didn’t need me any longer so why should I keep babysitting her?”
“You’re wrong! She still needs you. "I can tell, I saw the pain in her face when she mentioned your name. She cares about you, not only as her mentor but also as her family.”
“Hmph, that girl is such a troublesome child. How many times have I told her not to look at me as her mother?”
“Her mother?”
She looks away from you before answering your question, a tinge of sadness in her voice.
“Her mother died while she was giving birth to her. She lived alone with her father who really hated everything supernatural, including magic. As fate would have it, she saw me performing some magic one day...”
”Wow, how did you do that, Ms. Ghost Lady?”
”Huh, what are you doing here, little child? Are you lost?”
”Uh huh, I can’t find my father anywhere.”
”Well, do you want me to help you find him?”
”Nuh uh. I want to know first how you did that, you know, making those fireflies!
”They are not fireflies. I created them with my magic. Look, I’ll give one of them to you.
”Aah, they’re so warm and bright! Please, Ms. Ghost Lady, teach me how to make them!
“In the end, she left her father to learn magic from me. She was a really smart and diligent student, always trying out new spells even without my supervision.”
“Then why did you leave her?”
“What are you, deaf or just stupid? I had nothing else to teach her. I told you that she was already stronger than I at that time. As her mentor, I couldn’t allow that to happen. I decided to stay here in Makai so that I could learn the ‘Ultimate Magic’, the most powerful magic that has ever existed.”
“So you abandoned her because you desired more power for yourself?”
Her face turns red with anger after hearing your accusation. Instead of answering your question, she grabs your neck and chokes it with her grasp.
“Enough of this talk. It’s time for you to become a youkai. This will only hurt a little.”
She throws her wand to the ground and takes out a strange worm-like thing from her pocket. She brings the worm in front of your eyes. You can only stare in horror before the worm jumps into one of your eyes.
“Aaaaaaaah!”
Mima releases her grip as your scream echoes throughout the garden. Shinki responds by chanting some strange words in a language that you can’t understand. Somehow, her voice, combined with your scream, creates a terrible yet beautiful demonic symphony. It’s the last thing you hear before losing your consciousness.

After you wake up, you realize that you don’t have your human body anymore. You are now just a consciousness in a formless body, floating freely in the air. Strangely, you don’t feel weird at all. In fact, you feel really excited, gaining a new body like this.
You notice that everyone is staring at you, including two girls that you’ve never seen before.
“Are you alright?” said Shinki.
“Better than ever.” You realize that somehow you can speak, but not in your normal voice. Your voice sounds hollow and empty.
“That’s great! I was worried that there will be some complications after your transformation.” said Shinki.
“So, who are those two girls over there?”
“Oh, they are Yuki and Mai, a pair of witches. They are also created by my power. Why don’t you greet them?”
“Save the chat for later. I think we have some ‘guests’ that we must greet.” interrupted Yukari while pointing to the sky.
You look upwards to see a bright ball of light suddenly appearing out of thin air. It immediately explodes, sending out multiple laser beams towards the palace where you are now. Shinki anticipates it by erecting a barrier around the palace. It manages to block each and every one of those beams.
“I see that you’re still sharp as ever, o accursed one.”
The booming voice belongs to Sariel who appears from where the ball used to be. You see that she brings along Reimu, Marisa, Kasen, and the others that you have left behind. There are also two additional people that you don’t recognize.
Kasen shouts towards Yukari angrily. “Where is he? What have you done to him?”
“Oh, he’s right over there.” replied Yukari while pointing at you. “He’s no longer a human. He is now a youkai of change who will help us realize our goal.”
“You… how could you? Turn him back!”
“That won’t be necessary, Kasen.” you interrupted their conversation. “This… is the path that I’ve chosen for myself. With this power, I shall kill the Dragon and turn all humans on Earth into youkai.”
Kasen can only stare at you in shock. She can’t believe that you have turned yourself into a youkai. “B… but, why?”
“Why? No, the right question is ‘Why not?’ A youkai is superior to a human in all aspects; stronger, smarter, wiser. They even live far longer than a human can. That’s why I agree with her. Look at me. I’m no longer the weak farmer that you used to know. I am now a powerful youkai, the youkai that shall free not just Gensokyo, but also the rest of the world from God’s clutches. This battle for creation happens over and over again because He allows it. I will never forgive Him for that.”
“I’m very disappointed in you, human. Why do you choose this accursed path?” said Sariel.
“I am no longer human, oh angel of God! I can see it now… the infinite potential that this world has, the potential that your God sealed away a long time ago! Along with Shinki, we shall free this world from His yoke and establish a kingdom free from His laws!”
“Isn’t he beautiful? He’s the embodiment of everything that I’ve been working for all this time since you defeated me at that day. Your God had been too careless, letting me survive for this long.” said Shinki mockingly.
“Ignorant fool! You only survive because of His mercy! He doesn’t want you to be tortured in Hell for all eternity! He wants you to abandon your pride and beg for His forgiveness!” said Sariel angrily.
“Hah, you hear that? Her God is just a big egomaniac who wants to be praised and worshipped by His creation! Why should I bow down to such a being?” replied Shinki.
“Hold it you two!” interrupted Reimu. “I don’t care about the problems between both of you. I just want to know why do you plan on turning every human on Earth into youkai?”
“Why, that’s because they are needed, my dear Reimu.” said Yukari with a playful tone. “We need their power to fight against the angels that will attack us if we start the ritual to free this world from God. Besides, they should be glad that they will become a more beautiful and powerful being.”
“A more beautiful being? Don’t make me laugh! I have pride in being human! I won’t let myself be turned into a youkai!” said Marisa
“I see. So you still refuse to become a true magician, my dear apprentice?” said Mima.
“What? You… why are you here?” said Marisa, her shock evident on her face.
“I’m helping Shinki, of course. In exchange for teaching me the ultimate magic, I helped her to perfect the ritual for creating a new universe. Now, why don’t you come over here and join us?”
She flinches after hearing her offer. She really wants to join her old mentor but on the other hand she can’t betray her best friend, Reimu. She glances towards her, hoping to find some reassurance but Reimu just glares back at her.
“I… I can’t! You… you are no longer my master, not after you have abandoned me all this time! I can’t abandon Reimu just for you!” replied Marisa with a shaky voice.
“I see. Then, I too will no longer see you as my apprentice. You are now my enemy, Marisa Kirisame!” replied Mima with a disappointed look on her face.
“Alright, let’s cut the chit-chat, shall we? We all know that our battle here is inevitable. Just get this over with.” you said.
“Tell me, why do you choose to side with Shinki? Aren’t we all your friends? Aren’t you that farmer that I used to talk to?” said Keine
“Haven’t I told you already? That farmer is dead. The one standing before you is the almighty youkai of change, the embodiment of Chaos itself.”
Hearing your answer, she can only lower her head in sadness. Mokou, who’s standing beside her, tries to comfort her. Then, she shouts at you angrily.
“You traitor! I’ll never let you get away with this!”
She charges towards you, her fists clenched in her hands, only to be stopped by Remilia. She punches her in the stomach, sending her flying a few feet away from you.
“Hmph, don’t forget about me, the great Scarlet Devil!” said Remilia with a haughty voice.
“I’ve heard enough!” The booming voice comes from the green-haired girl whom you don’t recognize. “I, Shikieiki Yamaxanadu, have reached a verdict! All of you are guilty for disrupting the balance between humans and youkai! For that, I sentence all of you to hell! Komachi, prepare for battle!”
“I’m always ready, Lady Eiki!” replied the red-haired girl beside her cheerfully. “I feel sorry for you all, having to be sent to hell, but that’s what you got for angering the yama.”
“I, too, will fight against all of you! Lady Yuyuko will never agree to your foul plans! Prepare to die by my sword!” said Youmu while drawing her blades.
“How about the rest of you? Will you commit the unforgivable sin of fighting against God?” said Sariel.
“Chen and I will always fight beside Lady Yukari! If you even think on harming her, we will bare our fangs towards you!” said Ran.
“Lady Shinki, allow me to help you in fighting that angel!” said Yumeko
“Me too! I won’t let you harm Lady Shinki!” said Sara.
“We’ll fight for Lady Shinki, right Mai?” said Yuki. Mai only nods her head in response.
“You heard them. We demons will always fight for our creator!” said Louise.
