Stepping out of the shop, Reimu pocketed the last nine hundred yen into her new, cheap carry bag.
"...We're gettin? paid if we complete that job, y?know." Marisa stared at her critically.
"I know." Reimu sighed. "To think I just spent five thousand yen on trinkets and potions?"
Grinning, Marisa patted her on the back. "Aawh. Now ya know how all the village youkai hunters gotta do it. Not that they usually last long, but still. And ya got that bag for like, dirt cheap!"
"Do not worry, Hakurei." Miko spoke generously, "I will reimburse you for any inconvenience."
"With what?" Marisa turned to her. "The funds ya left in your other pair of pants?"
"...Once this is all said and done, anyway." Miko elaborated. "I intend to see this incident through with you two."
Idly, Reimu slid on the ring she bought. "...Do any of you know what AP is? it's called an AP Ring, so..."
"Actual? pretty?" Marisa gave it her best guess. "S?not a very pretty ring, though. it's, like, just a ring. Probably increases defense or something, like rings usually do."
Furrowing her brows, Reimu expressed further confusion. "How does a ring increase defense?"
"Actuality Digits." Miko announced her interpretation. "...At least, that's what I get from them."
Marisa gives her a dry look. "Digits starts with a D, dude."
"It could be another language." Miko argued. "Or the name of the individual who crafts them."
Moving through the town's plaza, they began marching towards the road that lead to the Myouren temple.
"...Ma~ybe." Marisa nodded unsurely. Looking back towards Reimu, she grinned again. "So, better question: what's an ?AP Up?, and why didja eat one?"
Reimu looked defensive. "Hey. It looked like candy, smelled like candy, and was chewy like candy. This AP guy probably makes candy, too."
Gently, breeze blew down the village path, the rustling of leaves audible in the distance. Wind howled for an awkwardly long period of time only moments later.
"I'm glad you spent twelve thousand yen on AP brand knicknacks." Miko added.
"I didn't know it cost ten thousand yen when I ate it." Reimu huffed.
"Hey, I can sympathize." Marisa defended Reimu's decision. "I went ta a restaurant one time, and they gave me the bill after I ate!"
...With that, Reimu chose not to comment further. Miko shook her head, refusing to dignify Marisa's experience with a response.
"I'm not lyin?.? Marisa insisted. "They really did!"
"We believe you." Miko threw her a bone.
"...Oh. "Cause ya weren't sayin? nothin?, and-"
"Shh~..."Reimu shushed her. "Listen."
...The sound of whirling, howling wind slowly sped up. After a moment, the three spread out to the far ends of the road, sheltering against the incoming projectiles.
Up above, numerous large, multi colored plates soared over the village, some clipping the roofs of nearby houses and shattering, while others broke in the dirt of the road, or against the walls of buildings.
"...It seems she's still at the temple." Miko observes.
Marisa snorts. "Looks like the next job'll be cleanin? up shattered glass!"
"We should probably hurry." Reimu takes to the air. "Come on."
"Is traversing by air the smartest idea?" Miko cautioned the miko.
Turning back to face her, Reimu looked annoyed. "it's not like these plates are-"
A smaller one shattered against the back of her head. "Eep!"
Marisa's jaw dropped. "Wha~t!" How'd ya get hit by such a tiny bullet!??
Rubbing the back of her head, Reimu floated to the ground. "I-I didn't feel it coming! I-..."She trailed off, appearing slightly distraught. "...didn't focus."
Marisa blinked. Hovering into the air herself, only for a moment, she appeared focused. "...Wo-woah. Wow."
"...By foot it is, then." Miko held her sword tensely, ready to fend against the bombardment of ceramic plates.

Eventually, the party reached the front steps that lead to the Myouren temple. The long, expansive front steps loomed ahead, as did the sound of shattering platery.
From behind a tree, the party observed the ceaseless, ceramic onslaught. "Why's she not usin? danmaku?" Gazing upon the ceramic-laden stone stairs, Marisa expressed her frustration.
"...Maybe she cannot." Miko justified her servant's actions.
"So she sends out a hailstorm of glass." Reimu remarks. "When everyone else is probably just as powerless as we are."
Marisa interjected, raising a finger. "We dunno that though. It might be just-"
"it's everybody." Miko assured.
"...Ah." Marisa lowered her finger. "Why's Monononono got plates for days, ze?"
Miko contributed a response, "I am unsure."
Marisa nodded. "Yeah, thought so."
Like this, they watched the plate storm descend upon the stairs for a few moments more.
Eventually, Reimu acted. "Well? it's time to go up."
Marisa snorted. "Yeah, okay. So ya can get beaned in the head by more plates. You tryin?a get on the fast track ta takin? a nap, Reimu?"
Grinning at her friend's audacity, Reimu counters, "You can stand behind me, if you'd like."
...Nodding again, Marisa agrees. "Sure. Yer gonna make a good meat shield, ze."
Miko disagreed. "Hakurei, I feel best if I were to protect us against the oncoming projectiles."
Reimu paused. "...You use a sword, right?"
Miko nods. "It did not spontaneously become a knife in its sheath, I'm sure."
"Since when has a sword been good at cutting rocks? Normal swords." Reimu makes her argument. "Those plates are like rocks, anyway. My gohei would be better at guarding against them."
"We ain't gonna have stairs to climb if you two can't make up yer minds." Marisa jeers, noticing the piling shards of ceramic on the stairs.
...Taking a deep breath, Reimu runs ahead towards the stairs, her gohei raised.
"Cautionary Barrier!" She declares.
Nothing happens.
Having expect that, she quickly guarded, plates slamming into her gohei and shattering.
"Co-come on!" She shouts for her company. "Let's move!"
Marisa hugs her broom tightly and stays compact behind Reimu. "Alright!"
Swinging her sword at passing plates, to variable effect, Miko followed. "If this is fine?"
...On the way up, Reimu stopped to guard on multiple steps. Plates continually rebounded and deflected off the wood surface of her gohei, which became gradually more and more beat up with every whirling pass of an oversized ceramic plate.
Miko, having been not directly behind Reimu, was forced to pace herself similarly against the linear tide of plates from above.
"Ha~h? ha~h?" Reimu began breathing heavily, her hands aching and arms pounding from the excessive guarding.
With continued effort, they reached the top of the stairs. Shambling forward, Reimu closed in on the wall adjacent to the temple's front gate. Covering behind it, she regained her breath?
Marisa whirled up beside her. "Ho~ly crap. I dunno ?bout you, but somethin? tells me that Monononono chick's got like, jugs of mana potions."
Miko ran from the stair top to the walling adjacent to the gate, opposite from Reimu and Marisa. "I don't remember Futo having stamina this admirable."
"Hya~h!"
A girl's shout was heard on the other side. Peeking their heads around the corner, the four observed Kyouko attempt to assault the taoist.
Futo spun around, the hems of her robes glowing as she held her arms in the air. Plates generated in dull green light above her, raining out directly into the air and being launched for miles.
"St-sto~p!" Kyouko held her broom tightly, running after Futo, but failing to catch up.
Reimu furrowed her brows. "...Where's everyone else?"
"Byakuren'd be kickin? some serious ass right now, ze." Marisa commented. "Looks like she's takin? the day off, though?"
Miko stared at Futo, expression blank.
?
"We should probably do something." Reimu decided.
Stepping out from cover, Reimu guarded again.
Kyouko turned to her. "A-ah, Reimu?!"
...Futo stopped spinning, plates ceasing to spawn.
After the last few dishes collided with Reimu's gohei, deflected, Reimu pointed her gohei at Futo. "You!"
Marisa was the next to appear from behind the walling. "Yo!"
...Futo smirked. "Ah, yes. It seemst the Hakurei hath cast herself unto my grasp unwittingly."
At that, Miko walked out. "Futo."
There was no reaction from Futo.
"Why are you doing this?" Miko questioned. "Just the other day, you were content. Now? you contain vast hunger. You behave unlike a taoist."
"It is simple." Futo held her arms up. "I hath doffed such a mantle. After all why wouldn't I, after recent events? Thy ignorance hath always left me in contempt, for-"
"You lie." Miko glared at her. "Your intentions are not those of my servant. Who are you?"
?
Kyouko bonked Futo on the back of the head. "Geh?"
Marisa giggled. "Ya oughta watch yer back, ze. Bein? all rowdy like this's sure to catch ya a lotta enemies."
...Scowling, Futo whirled to face Kyouko, and swung her arm.
With a great roar, a powerful gust of wind sent Kyouko flying. "Waa~h!"
Kyouko was sent soaring into the side of the temple, where she slammed into it.
"Hey!" Reimu was displeased. "Your fight's over here!"
Staring at her servant intently, Miko's eyes ran across her features. "...Her strength is far greater than usual, but proper administration of violence should remedy this conflict."
"We're gonna have some fun!? Marisa grinned, adjusting herself on her broom. "Most of my shit's sealed, but I can probably still shoot ya! In the face, ze!"
?Aero!?
Blue plates appeared in the air, wind violently ripping as eight plates took Futo's side. Floating into the air, a sphere of wind protected her from harm.
Futo turned back to the party of girls, eyes narrow and baring her teeth. "There?st no fun in this?"

Use a Spell Card. Uses replenish at the end of each job. Typically a bad idea to use on bosses, but can be a crowd cleaner, area denial, or general intimidation. Not all spell cards get translated as danmaku, so some can help more than others.

Marisa - 3

Misc. strategies and stuff that don't fit into other categories. This is all just to kinda put all the options out there; you don't need to take the above choices as a concrete pattern for things.
a lil more on spell cards?
I generally just kinda interpret them how I want, and also somewhat literally. Depends on if I wanna look up their danmaku pattern or not, too, but nine times out of ten it will be danmaku, and bosses are going to be somewhat tanky in the danmaku department for bossy reasons. Their usefulness varies wildly.
hopefully didn't dun fuck it up this time
