You look over at Satori as she squeezes your hand. "Lead the way." You say, gesturing at the door. Satori nods, a spring in her step as you and her head outside. The machine-guns set up in the corridor give you pause again, a dark reminder of the truth of this place. Satori seems not to even notice them though. She leads you through the locked door, shutting it behind, and then up, into the fresh morning air outside. The concrete of the multi-story car park hangs heavy above your head, but the chill of the night still lingers on this side of their barricade.
Satori let's go of your hand. "Would you mind?" She gestures at the sheet of tin blocking the entrance way.
"Oh, sure." You say, hefting it to the side as she steps through the gap. You follow her and then lower the makeshift doorway back into place, dusting your hands off on your trousers.
In the light of day it looks exactly like a rubbish heap, nothing to suggest what is hidden below.
"Youki and Tewi made it." Satori pipes up from behind you. "Tewi is good at hiding."
"Mm." You grunt, looking around. The tarmac and concrete of the car park stretches off, brightening sunlight just outside, visible in the doorways and through the gaps in the walls. You frown, sudden realisation dawning on you. "Where's the body of the combat drone?" You ask.
"Oh!" Satori glances around as well. There's a large dark stain on the ground, but no body. "Youki used to say they they harvest their dead. He ... didn't like that." Satori frowns a little, lost in thought. You gulp, after a night's sleep and the warmth of a girl in your bed, the thought of facing that thing last night sends a renewed shiver up your spine. Don't think about it now, just enjoy your time with Satori.
"Shall we go?" You ask, offering Satori your hand. She looks up and smiles.
"Of course." Her fingers intertwine with yours and you both head off into the sunlight.
==
After leaving the shadow of the multi-story, you let yourself shut down for a few moments, thinking of nothing but the rising sunlight on your face and the feeling of Satori's soft hand in yours. There's barely anyone in the streets this time of morning, apart from a garbage van and a few early-risers. You can't help but wonder now, how many of them are real, how many just Yukari's fakes, empty spaces where there should be people.
"Hmm." Satori makes a noise, squeezing your hand. "Try not to think about it too much."
You just nod, still feeling disquieted. Satori leads you along a different route to last night, not through the street where you fought Youmu. She can probably sense that you'd rather not go there. As you walk, you pass within a few blocks of the school gates, but keep going, west towards the more affluent part of town. Does Satori live near there? You can't help but wonder what kind of place she lives in. As you glance over at her, your head starts buzzing with questions again.
This is so exciting, but so nerve-wracking at the same time. An overwhelming urge to know more about her, but coupled with an absurd, nameless worry.
Satori glances at you, a little smile on her face. "It's okay." She says.
"It is?" You ask. She nods. You take a deep breath, frowning with thought, but Satori is still one step ahead of you.
"I have two pets. Orin and Okuu." She says, sighing contentedly and swinging your hand back and fourth as she walks. "You met Orin." She stifles a grin. "Okuu is easier to deal with. She's a raven."
"A raven?" You ask. "An actual raven or a raven that also turns into a person?"
Satori glances sidelong a you, amused. "The latter." She says.
So many questions. You have time, there's nobody around and Satori's walking pace is slower than yours.

Soltindir !4rqjPmV6PI 2009/04/30 (Thu) 20:49 No. 85595 You clear your throat, feeling a little uncomfortable at the thought of Satori's pets. Orin was ... problematic. Satori giggles and rolls her eyes.
"What?" You ask. Satori sighs.
"She's always like that." Satori says. "But she means well."
" ... are you sure?" You ask, thinking of the feeling of being crushed by Orin's legs.
"Uh ... " Satori smiles uncomfortably.
"I mean, I pissed her off pretty badly." You say. "But she didn't have to be violent." Satori nods, blushing a little.
"I'll ... er ... talk to her?" She tries, obviously feeling how uncomfortable you are about that dammed cat. "I'm sorry!" She suddenly blurts out.
"For what?" You ask.
"For leaving you alone with her." Satori lets go of your hand and nervously grasps her fingers together. "I thought it would be best."
"I guess it had to be gotten out of the way." You say. "Next time, warn me when an animal is going to shift into a person, okay?" You can't believe how absurd your words are. Animals turning into people? Further proof this place isn't normal.
Satori smiles again and takes your hand, cheered again by your own feelings of absurdity. "It is odd, isn't it?" She asks. "But I'm used to it." She shrugs.
"How do you get used to something like that?" You ask.
"Well." Satori ponders for a moment. "They're not people."
"They're not?" You ask. How is that possible? You saw Orin as a young woman with your own eyes. Satori smiles indulgently.
"Orin and Okuu are both ... enlightened animals." She explains.
"Orin didn't seem very 'enlightened' to me." You grumble. Satori giggles.
"It's a turn of phrase." She says. "As in raised up, higher than other animals." You just nod, thinking. "But they're still animals inside." Satori says, shrugging.
"Where did you get them?" You ask, suddenly frowning.
"Oh!" Satori almost flinches. "No no, I do remember them, sort of."
"Ahh, that's good."
"Don't worry." She says, squeezing your hand. "I know they're real, and they mine. It's hard to explain." She says, but you wish she would try. You can't help but wonder how she came to own such odd pets.
"I can try." Satori shrugs.
"Please do." You say.
"I remember always having them around." She says, looking up at the sky as she walks. "I remember them being smaller than they are now, younger. But, heh," she suddenly looks uncomfortable. "That doesn't make any sense. I'm only a teenager. They're grown up, as humans anyway."
You nod, but Satori is right. She glances over at you.
"What?" You ask. The look on her face is odd, worried.
"Do you think ... do you think Yukari messed with our ages?" She asks, lowering her voice and rushing out the words. You frown, thinking. It's possible. "I mean ... there's so many of us, and most of us are school-age, teenagers, all the same age group. It doesn't seem right."
"Maybe." You say. Satori just looks at her own hand, frowning.

I'm inclined to hold off on any sort of physical retaliation until hearing what she has to say for herself. She might even have a good reason, although it would have to be a DAMN good one.
Nitori, on the other hand, there is no need for explanation. We HAVE to mess with her somehow. The potential for fun is just too great to pass up. Although her being unaware of our survival would have made for a perfect opportunity to get her with the old ghost routine again, her being informed of what happened with us could work just as well in our favor. She probably knows we know she voted against us, and as we're both part of Kaguya's little after-school club, she knows damn well we'll be seeing her again. If we're lucky, she'll be stewing and fretting over having to meet the guy she condemned to death face-to-face again, and when we do I'm sure we'll have thought up a wonderful punishment for her. Oh yes, indeed~.
And then there's Tenshi. We haven't met her, but depending on her attitude, I might have no qualms about socking her. Even if she might enjoy it. Hell, especially if she'll enjoy it.

Did we ever figure out why she said that?

>>85938 "Reasonable" my ass.
It's one thing for the people who never even met us to have no problem saying it would be safer to take us out rather than take a risk on us after what happened to the group, but for the people who actually met and spent some time around us to come to that same decision?
Hell, Rinnosuke wasn't entirely sold on us, but he still wasn't willing to go so far as to be in favor of outright killing us. And yet despite hiss reasonable "wait and see" approach to us, and our being vouched for by both the group's resident nutcase who tried to kill us and the girl who could
see inside our head, this seemingly pleasant and friendly girl who kindly showed us around and even introduced us to some people apparently agreed that the new kid should die, and why? Because we didn't get attacked by the Hive on our way home, something that even if we hadn't had a higher power apparently looking out for us, could very well have been simple chance?
I think it takes more than mere caution or even paranoia to be able to show such a seemingly friendly face to someone, only to basically turn around and stab them in the back like that.

Anonymous 2009/05/06 (Wed) 00:21 No. 85969 It does seem like a pretty big leap from "don't let the new guy manipulate his way into your secret hideout like last time" to "kill the new guy immediately because he's new and might be a spy".
Anonymous 2009/05/06 (Wed) 01:11 No. 85971 I think there were some situations where Mima did try to gauge our reactions and we responded suspiciously. Two things come to mind: we decided to head to the commons area instead of the isolated school roof, and we immediately identified Reimu after that. Beyond that, who knows if we were spotted talking to Reimu after our little tour?
Discussion for the sake of discussion is boring. Update.
Anonymous 2009/05/06 (Wed) 01:11 No. 85972 >>You can't exactly totally blame them for being too cautious.
Oh yes I can! There are plenty of other members of the student body they're clearly not sure about, yet you don't exactly see anyone trying to assassinate any of them, now do you? Nooo, don't do anything against the people you have at least some clue might be allied with your enemy! Just avoid them!
It just seems so damn inconsistent.
"Suika? Well let's see, she's apparently very strong, hangs around with someone who we know has fought alongside the enemy, and so probably isn't on our side." "STAY AWAY!"
"The new guy? Well, we don't know exactly who or even what he is, which side (if any) he's on, or what he might even be capable of. All we know is he seems friendly, has an attraction to green hair and/or the eccentric and potentially insane, and bugs don't seem particularly attracted to him for some reason. Otherwise, for all we know he could be anything from a simple human of no real threat to us, to a walking tank capable of punching a mongol warrior into the stratosphere. Oh, also our resident mind-reader and the crazy hobo girl think he's A-OK." "KILL THEY ASS."
Nevermind the extreme lack of wisdom in attacking a potential enemy of unknown strength with just one person, let alone THE one person you probably can't afford to lose, and who also despite her willingness to commit murder can't shake a pesky sense of honor that causes her to give the potential enemy of an unknown threat level A WEAPON.
Don't get me wrong. They all seem like good people. The ones we've met, at least. They've been through a lot, are understandably stressed and on-edge, and have every right to be wary of strangers. However, they are also the last people I would want deciding whether someone should live or die. I'm not sure I'd even trust them to pick out what to have for dinner.
Anonymous 2009/05/06 (Wed) 01:30 No. 85975 ...is there a Yukari-side route?
Anonymous 2009/05/06 (Wed) 01:30 No. 85976 I interpreted the situation more as a "This person is either going to kill us or will just be another human", and from that "Too much to lose, nothing to gain; We should just kill him", i.e. simply avoiding him wouldn't be an option.
>Nevermind the extreme lack of wisdom in attacking a potential enemy of unknown strength with just one person, let alone THE one person you probably can't afford to lose, and who also despite her willingness to commit murder can't shake a pesky sense of honor that causes her to give the potential enemy of an unknown threat level A WEAPON.
ok, that's a damn good point though. I had never thought of that. Maybe Youmu is just really arrogant.
Anonymous 2009/05/06 (Wed) 06:12 No. 85998 >>The vote was a screw-up, but they don't seem that bad. Look at Tewi; she just totally kicked someone's ass at hacking.
She's also rather fun and a pleasant person once you get to know her, and I'm sure is probably a demon in the sack. However, she is still the sort of person who I could see causing me to develop a habit of counting the cutlery in the kitchen to make sure nothing is missing before I can go to sleep each night, just in case.
That said, I still feel safer in their company than taking our chances going against Miss "Can Flatline Your Brain With a Snap of Her Fingers" and her army of freaky nocturnal bug monsters alone.
They're disorganized, have (occasionally) dubious judgment, don't seem to have much of a goal now that their leader is gone beyond "keep sentient alien WMD in basement, tell NO ONE", and in dire need of new blood and reestablishing a supply line but don't seem likely to do much about it without an outside force moving them to act.
Sure, the "voting to kill us" thing was totally a dick move, but it's not grounds for ditching them. It's just a nice opportunity to either call in a couple favors from them as a half-apology, half-sign of good faith from our new "friends". Or, in the case of Nitori, it's a chance to have some good, clean fun at her expense. As opposed to, you know, the not-so-clean fun we'll be having at the expense of Rika, her ass, and our wallet once we find a decent cake shop in this illusionary burg we're living in.
We shall have justice. We shall have satisfaction. And we SHALL have our cake and eat it too!

Talk to Mima/Nitori and punish them with more than just a glare or a hard handshake.

Become friends with Hina.
Feet Time Fun Time with Kaguya.
Visit Sanae.
Make out with Tewi.
Eat some Rika asscake.
Make out with Satori.
Rape Orin.
Fight the scout bugs, the combat drone and whatever comes after the combat drone.
Have a good night of sleep by cuddling with Satori.
Have another crazy dream and/or remember more memories and/or talk to a severed head and possibly go insane.

WHERE IS THE ONI THREESOME ANONYMOUS
YOU SAID THERE WOULD BE ONI THREESOME
Of course, this is one of the few stories on THP in which a harem route actually seems feasible, so...
Anonymous 2009/05/24 (Sun) 00:59 No. 87148 >ONI THREESOME
We're an Oni. That will happen regardless.
Anonymous 2009/05/24 (Sun) 02:15 No. 87152 The people thinking in terms of "X route" or "Y root" or "X and maybe some Y on the side" are making a categorical mistake. Oni are traditionally characterized by a savage asceticism. They live in caves. Things they 'own' are that which they have won from others in contests, and for them the contest is as important as the stakes.
So take this as an example:
"Am I going steady with Judy, or does that fling with Nicole the other night mean I was cheating? But were going steady in the first place? Maybe we aren't, and that's why she hasn't said anything? And if we aren't, and she doesn't want to say we are, is there another man?"
This is not the kind of interior monologue we'll be seeing in the protagonist. An Oni's thoughts would be more genuinely related in a very different narrative conceit--the Morning-After Answering Machine Message.
BEEP. "Heeeey, Janey! Bitchin' party last night, huh? Listen, I got off the phone with Cass, and apparently they're throwing another one at Larry's--think it's his brother's 21st? So yeah, if you're up for it. Catch up with me or one them at school tomorrow if you're interested. Later!" END OF NEW MESSAGES.
For the Oni, it's usually the case that they think the more the merrier. And if and when he does come across relationship 'problems' he certainly won't be attacking it with math, so you silly children better get all thought of triangle, tesseract, and other relationship geometry out of your heads.
